AREA
The area takes its name from a sepulchral monument, built along the ancient via Cassia in the second half of the third century, erroneously considered the tomb of Nero due to a popular belief that arose in the Middle Ages. This monument, in reality, is the sarcophagus of Publio Vibio Mariano, proconsul and principal of Sardinia and prefect of Legio II Italica, and of his wife Regina Maxima. This belief was born in the twelfth century, when popular voices supposed that the goals of the emperor had been moved to that sepulcher, following the destruction of the mausoleum that contained them, in Piazza del Popolo.
At the time of the Etruscans, this area was traveled by the Veientitan road that detached itself at this point by Cassia to head north-west to Veio.
The Tomba di Nerone district is placed between Giustiniana and Tor di Quinto, near two important roadbors: the Grande Raccordo Anulare and the Via Cassia, the ancient consular road which, starting from Ponte Milvio, led to Arezzo and that today It constitutes the main road artery of the neighborhood. This area is one of the most green and quiet in the city of Rome, enjoying the presence of the insufficio nature reserve, which stands to the west, between via Cassia and via Trionfale and the Veio regional park in the north-west, also rich of paths and places of historical and naturalistic interest.
The "Tomba di Nerone" area extends along the former Cassia consular and is one of the settlements scheduled in the urban planning plans developed in the 1920s, with characteristics of the extra -urban village. The neighborhood takes place throughout the length on a fairly high ridge of the Cassia consular. The new church of S. Andrea is located in front of the travertine fountain that recalls the Italian soldiers who fell during the Second World War, surrounded by a fountain.
