The island:
It is part of the Pontine Islands, about 50 km from the Circeo National Park is about 50 km. Its characteristic white beaches and turquoise water are famous all over the world and make it one of the most coveted destinations for tourists. With its 40 km of jagged coasts, it is full of coves to discover, submerged caves and pharaglioni. The most lively part of Ponza is certainly the port where you can walk between small craft shops, shop and eat in one of the clubs with a sea view terrace. In the highest part of the island is the lighthouse, from which you can admire a wonderful landscape and the remains of the Roman necropolis: it is the ideal place to go with the children.
In Ponza there are three natural pools, a unique show delimited by the rocks and only one of these has an opening towards the sea. Here you can rent canoes or pedal to explore the wildest corners, if you don't like being in too frequented places and you love tranquility. Then, if the exploration likes, the pilate caves are absolutely to be seen. It is a system of caves dug in the tuff by the ancient Romans who served to breed the moray eels. Always speaking of caves, the Ulysses' cave deserves a mention where you can admire wonderful plays of light, which give brightness to the water making it appear of a very intense turquoise color.
On the island of Ponza you can admire two incredible rocks: the Faraglione del Panto and the Faraglioni della Madonna. The former remember the shape of a trousers a little and from here in fact their name derives. According to a legend of the place, the name derives from a silent sailor who, to launch his cry of joy, seeing that wonderful landscape, took off his pants by putting them on the rock and took the form. The Faraglioni della Madonna today are reached only by sea, but once they were connected to the land and were part of the imposing summer villa of Augustus. The name derives from the fact that on the Faraglione there is a chapel dedicated to the Madonna della Salvazione, very beautiful, with the particularity that is carved on the rock.
