The district:

"Trieste" is the seventeenth district of Rome. It was established in 1926 with the name of "Savoy", for the fact of being, along via Salaria, close to Villa Ada, then residence of the royal house. The current denomination, officially adopted in September 1946, is instead due, as mentioned, to the sinuous and elegant hubs inside the historic Trieste course. Salaria marks the border with the Pinciano district in Ponente. The famous consular road, whose current path dates back to the time of Emperor Nerva (the Sec. D.C.) and which, as is known, was used in ancient times for the transport of salt between Rome and Porto d'Ascoli, is one of the fundamental arteries of all the north part of the city. On the opposite side, no less important, it is the Via Nomentana who acts as a separation line of the Trieste from the territory of the Nomentano; While the Aniene river and viale Regina Margherita constitute the northern and southern limits of the neighborhood respectively. It was in 1909, with the urban plan developed by the architect Edmondo Sanjust of Teulada, which began the settlement of this area of Rome. For about twenty years, the progressive construction of housing units in occupied areas until all the nineteenth century by rustic villas and buildings that are no longer existing, or, as in the case of Villa Chigi, partially converted to public parks, was implemented. So from the start - therefore from the 1930s - the Trieste district has characterized itself as a highly residential area of nature, with buildings of undoubted architectural value harmoniously placed in the urban fabric, with accurate spaces of public green and with excellent infrastructures and services quality. Furthermore, the numerous and interesting artistic and archaeological testimonies significantly increase its value in the historical and cultural level.
