The name Bufalotta derives from the ancient "Ciampiglia dei del Bufalo" hold in which the noble family of Pistoia was settled which in 1200 settled in Rome. In fact, the head of the family appeared the head of a buffalo with a ring between the nostrils and the motto between the horns. Thus, the road that was aiming from the center of the capital to the north east was called "Via della Bufalotta".
